Julie Conover journeys to the Aysen region of Chilean Patagonia. At a world renown fly-fishing lodge, "Estancia Del Zorro", she & her crew happen upon the birth of a baby alpaca ... and then they witness the first hours and the first steps of her life. We named her "Julia".
Mama Alpaca was incredibly tolerant with our presence and allowed us to film them for two hours. We think that maybe she knew we were keeping the other curious animals away and we were giving them a few hours to rest up. She would have charged at us and spit at us if she didn't want us to be there. Sebastian Galilea, the owner of the lodge, has spent his whole life the on the Estancia and has never witnessed a Alpaca birth before.
It was a once in a lifetime experience!

That was so cool!! It was amazing seeing a brand new baby. It was interesting seeing hundreds of them initially, leaving when, I assume, they saw people - yet the mother seemed at ease staying behind with her baby. Looking forward to seeing the actual show!
