Burgh Marsh is in the North East section of the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It will feature in the evolving Ecosal-Atlantis project to link salt making sites in Portugal, Spain, France and the UK to be known as 'Traditional Salt Making - The Atlantic Route'.
The UK section is being developed by a team based at Bournemouth University, School of Applied Sciences.
There is a fascinating tradition of salt making in the Solway AONB, North Cumbria. Other sites can be found on the salt marshes at Newton Marsh, Moricambe Bay, Skinburness and Silloth. Information is available at the Solway Discovery Centre, Silloth where there is also a wealth of information about the ecology and bird life in the area.
Compare this site with the other Solway salt marshes and those at Laugharne and Traeth Maelgwyn that will feature in the Welsh Route.
