In between dancing in streets, fields and pub yards, the Morris Men sing, possibly with a good pint of beer in their hands. Here are a few of their songs: Chicken On A Raft (Rowan - Cinque Port Morris Men). It was written by Cyril Tawney. He was in the Royal Navy in submarines for many years and when he left the navy he became very successful as a singer, singing the songs that he wrote which were mainly about navy life.
The second song is a traditional song and is normally given the name of the fighting ship in the song which was called in this case The Royal Oak (Dave Rannie - Long Man Morris Men).
Cushie Butterfield (Tony - Cinque Port Morris Men), was performed in the Music Halls in the Newcastle area. It was a parody of a London Cockney Music Hall song called Pretty Polly Perkins and it uses the same tune.
Here are some otherwise west country people nicking it.
