Retrogen Portable Review: Part 1 of 2

This is my personal take on the new Sega Genesis/Mega Drive portable gaming unit. It is a clone of the original hardware, which uses emulation at its source (with "Firecore Technology"). Original Add-ons, such as the Power Base Converter or the 32X, will not work on the system. Although the emulation is not 100% accurate, the handheld does offer a great number of features we had not seen before. It plays, as advertised, Genesis and Mega Drive games (including the Japanese MD) without region hindrance. A built-in Lithium ion battery allows for over 6 hours of gameplay; and the unit itself can be recharged via a USB cable. Even though there is no input for a second controller, it does have the capacity for audio/video output (a headphone jack is also featured).

  • would you like to tell us were we can get one of these it actualy is pretty cool i have a buch of old geneses game laying around my house but dont have the counsle but hey why not just get one of these. p.s nice vide i subscribe

  • @thestraight411truth Honestly, the only source of which I can think atm is eBay, if not other such online sources. But if you're going there for your sole Genesis console needs, then I'd suggest just getting a Model 2 Genesis to start you up. It won't be much more than $10 complete with cables and at least one controller.

  • Yeah the sound is really off track. Sounds like the sound chip is laggy or something. Sega Mega Drive had big issues with sound chips on various different versions of the console and this is highlighting that fact here.

  • @sirbargearse This is emulation. A clone system. Sega had nothing to do with it.
