  • Of course wealthy folks like Stossel are for it-- Americans for Fair Taxation's own research states that on average those making less than $15k and more than $150k (e.g., Stossel) will pay less in effective federal taxes than now, while the middleclasses making from $15k to $150k would on average pay more than now. The "Fair" Tax is a very bad idea that fortunately will never be approved and enacted.

  • @1969was1969 Class warfare rhetoric and fear-mongering.

    1. The FairTax is taxation by CHOICE - taxed on spending based on spending choices.

    2. The CURRENT INCOME TAX is a very bad idea that unfortunately is destroying our economy, as Karl Marx said a progressive income tax would. See Plank #2 of the Communist Manifesto.

  • A flat sales tax is the only way to go. No more govt deciding they have the right to take our hard earned money at will. The Fair Tax is the only truly voluntary tax system and benefits every single US citizen. Yes, and even govt.

  • @ziglet53 - I have a comment from you in my inbox where you apparently think that I am not in favor of eliminating state income tax...I'm not only for the FairTax on the national level but for the same eradication of income taxation at the state level too. We're trying to get rid of ours in Georgia...income taxation penalizes our citizens at the expense of Florida and Tennessee and others around us without state income taxes.

  • Seems to me there are only 2 types of fair taxes.

The flat tax. Or no tax.

They both scare the shit out of Liberals and those in government.

  • Stossel was patriotic doing a show called "what's great about America". Patriotic people tell complainers to shut up or leave. Well... now HE'S complaining.

  • @dennis317 " destroying our economy, as Karl Marx said a progressive income tax would"... wait, you are a supporter of Marx? Marx supported progressive taxes, btw, just as the founders of Capitalism did. As Adam Smith said :

"It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion".

Progressive taxes are beneficial for many types of economic systems in societies.

  • @dennis317 Plus, the "class warfare" is being done by those proposing this tax-- they are wealthy men who want to lower their tax burden at the expense of the middleclasses (again, it on average raise the taxes of those making from $15,000 to $150,000 a year while lowering the taxes of those who make more. THAT is class warfare, warfare on the middleclasses by the very rich.

  • @dennis317 1) The CHOICE is WHEN one pays-- the only way you can not pay the 23%i/30%e tax on every dollar you make, other than buying used or overseas, is to die with the $-- hardly something encouraging one to work and earn more

    2) The income tax is the fairest & best way to get tax revenue, especially when it is sufficiently progressive (it isn't currently due to lack of a high enough rate on the very wealthy). It taxes according to what one reaps from the society which the taxes pay for.

  • Of the three options we have the current income tax, the flat tax and the fair tax. Honestly the fair tax is the only fair one because it is not an income tax. People forget that the flat tax is STILL and income tax on your labor and your wages, it eliminates all the deductions, exemptions, and credits that you can get on the current system. Finally the flat tax would result in people paying more taxes and the poor would suffer more and the rich would pay less.

    Support the fair tax

  • Americans are going to work for 1/2 of minimum wage & no health care if the corporations decide to come back to america.

The 99% poor & middle classes cant/wont work for those wages...

Yet they go on collecting subsidies, tax breaks& other corporate welfares.

There will be chaos, anarchy & blood shed...

  • @dennis317 most of it SS and medicare which i will never get, but the state switching to fair tax alone was enough to create this economy.

Guess what fed, I want a new computer, if I had that money that you took from me right now, I would have my new computer right now. supporting Intel, an American company.
