Great plane! Just don't understand why Holland has chosen to replace the f -16 by the f-35 JSF at double the cost, while we could support the European economy and have a better deal with the Gripen! American lobbying I guess.....

I bet the Gripen can do a non-catapult assisted takeoff from the deck of any US carrier, I'm wondering if a "navalized" version could be made without much structural modification. The F404/F414 series engines have proven they can operate well at sea. a Marine-Gripen would be the best bang for the buck for any nation wanting to build a naval air arm. Y

Yeah, you guys have F-16s from the late 70s and early 80s with MLU which are STILL better than a Gripen. You don't have to have a double wheeled nose landing gear to operate from austere landing strips. The Taiwanese proved this with their own F-16s and the US had done the same thing in Germany on the autobahn with their F-16s. I must say it is the best bang for the buck. Nothing beats the value of the Gripen.
