  • Yes, that's true - they are not sulcatas, they are Mojave Desert tortoises but on the vet's advice I had to keep the two babies out of hibernation this winter as we were afraid they might not make it through to the spring. With the seams between their scutes being so widened they would have been vulnerable to invading disease and parasites and might not have woken up again so I had to set up an indoor habitat with special heat lamps and UV lights

  • Tortoises and other reptiles bob their heads as a sign of aggression and also to enhance their ability to smell something. The big guy is checking out the little guy, who has just invaded his space.
