In 2004 Sec. of State Blackwell used Smartech to tabulate the Ohio votes on servers in Chattanooga, TN.
According to Prof. Steve Freeman, 2004 Exit Polls showed Kerry ahead nationwide by 7% or 6 million votes.
Who will be doing EXIT POLLS in 2008?
Who will be tabulating votes in your state? Will private companies use servers out of state? How will votes be counted in your state? By hand? By machine? Are there paper ballots that could be counted in a recount if necessary?

there is no room in our democracy for counting exit polls. they are based on how the questions are asked and who is asked. You would have to write statistical theory into the constitution. And they have been wrong before.

Exit polls can be a check to determine whether votes are being manipulated. See the links listed in more info in this video. You're right, it depends on how the exit polls are conducted. However, when they are done properly, it can reveal if the tabulated votes are accurate or need to be hand-counted.
