This video looks at an interesting match sent to me from one of my subscribers, BigStupidFingers, who won as white using the mainline Reti opening in the beginning, and the 3 vs 3 pawn breakthrough technique in the end game.

While there were blunders on either side of the board, I think the key difference in the match was Big's understanding of the pawn breakthrough technique, allowing him to secure the win in the end.

  • Thanks for videos.. Keep making them..

  • Thanks for the comment and checking it out topshonuff!

  • FYI, I saw your last video that talked about this pawn formation and it's awesome to see an actual gameplay of this tactic. I went into this pawn position before, but me and the other player couldn't take the chance to move the center pawn forward because we both had supporting pieces supporting the pawns, which resulted in a standoff. Anyways, nice video! =]

  • Sounds like a close game Winter! Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • Hi Jrobi. This is the first time I've commented on your vids, though I'm an avid viewer. Just wanted to thank you for them: your analyses are stunningly clear, and very well-presented. Not an easy thing to do.

    So, thankyou for them!

    lose 2 paws, Ithink

  • whats the interface

  • this is all about the pawn power.

  • Whoops, cancel that; it's actually a 4 vs 4 pawn formation.

  • There's a pawn breakthrough technique possible with 5 vs 5 pawns in the "diamond" formation. I still haven't been able to figure it out, though.

  • grab a board and test it with 4

  • This was a very interesting match. I liked the pawn break through technique at the end. Jrobi! I Have a question? dOES IT HAVE TO BE EXACTLY THREE PAWNS FOR THE PAWN breakthrough technique to work.

  • I feel there must be a better defense against the Reti in the very beginning; I havnt played for so long tho. I liked the pawn breakthru intro - I know this. Also there is a pawn blockade with 3 pawns as well, and there is much detail in Knight vs Bishop game that could be analyzed; not to discredit as the analyses is properly commented on for its level of players' viewing audience (meaning players were 1400 level, and you could have gone deeper which wasnt necessary). I liked the analyses!
