  • According to: Merriwether's Guide to Edible Wild Plants of Texas and the Southwest: Caffeine the berries are mushed into a goo and simmered with a little water. That's what makes the Native American 'black drink'. You should try it lol.

  • The black drink is made with the berries of the plant -- not the leaves lol. The leaves are considered a 'tea'. That's why you got a low count.
