Shelters and evacuation centres in the main, continue to refuse access for evacuees to bring pets with them. Accordingly very large numbers of pets are being handed in to protection agencies and pet shelters for adoption. One pet shelter in Sendai with a grassy fenced in run, rather than cages, has filled to over flowing capacity with 120+ tsunami survivor dogs looking for foster or forever homes immediately. Feeding and supplying water & care facilities in such situations is a tremendous burden on the owners of the facilities, who operate on a voluntary basis, without paid staff etc.
Missing Animals
Many missing pets have now been re-united with their owners however after the joy of being reunited the owners are advised that they are not permitted to bring their newly found pets to the evacuation centres with them. Owners are therefore choosing to sleep in cars or abandoned cars instead with the animals and the other members of their family. A very large number of cases of deadly Deep Vein Thrombosis have been reported as a result of this practice.
Helping pets in post-disaster Japan
The dog had been left tied up in a yard in Fukushima, the largely emptied city synonymous with the words "nuclear disaster."

STOP UNCLAIMED PETS TO BE GASSED IN 72HRS, in Japan
Yes. At the emergency disaster, animals in shelters will not be euthanized in 72hrs, WHAT bout AFTER emergency time???
Man 1 - Now we are in Arahama area... oh look there is a dog there. He is gray, must have survived from the earth quake and tsumani. He is covered in dust. He is wearing a collar so must be a domestic dog - he has a silver chain around his neck. He looks scared... Look, there is another one. Is he dead?
Man 2 - where?
Man 1 - Just right next to him
Man 2 - ah...
Man 1 - there is another dog next to him but he is not moving... is he dead?
Man 2 - I think he is protecting him
Man 1 - yeah I think so too. Maybe he is telling us to back off. 'don't come anywhere near us'. It's heartbreaking. It's so hard to see something like this.
Man 1 - oh I can see the other one is moving. That's great, he is alive. Looks like he is very weak though... I hope they can be rescued very soon. Oh look, he is getting up, that's fantastic. I can't believe they survived from such a horrific earth quake.
Man 2 - Damn I wish I had food with me...
Man 3 - we should have brought something...
END Thank you flyingtoaster, i hope it was ok to paste.

i know... they sound so dumb, but later found out...
Kenn Sakurai
>They (TV crew) know that world is blaming on them but they told me that they had the security escort and they are not allowed to take anything away. After taking that footage, one of them has asked the escort guard that he wants to take the dogs with him, and at least take them to the vet. But the asking was denied. ↑ That's why we need to change Japan animal laws.
