Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower

Measuring 468 meters (1,536 feet) high, Oriental Pearl TV Tower of Shanghai is the tallest TV/radio tower in Asia and the third tallest of the world, the first and second ones being in Toronto and Moscow respectively. The tower has an unique architectural design which makes it even more attracive to the tourists than just its height. The base of the tower is supported by three seven-meter wide slanting stanchions. Built in 1994, the tower is now considered as the symbol of new China.

Among many other things, the tower has an uppermost observation deck which affords the visitors a beautiful panoramic view of Shanghai city and on a clear day visitors can see as far as the Yangtze River. But at a slightly lower level, there is an observation deck with a heavy-duty glass floor. This perhaps attracts more visitors as they can literally see the ground below their feet standing at 863 feet above ground. Shrieks and screams of fear, thrill, and surprise fills the entire area as does the clicking sound of camera shutters!
