just another day here in Philipstown, NY...Business as usual. The people here are generally pretty apathetic and have a real "corporate" approach to things, you know..."Don't rock the boat"...and I'm not going to get involved, because I go to church with so and so...or my children go to school with their children...or...I cannot possibly say anything, because we do business together etcetera etcetera etcetera.... As far as our natural resources, most individuals around here only get involved when their driveways get washed away or their basements get flooded....that's when the town calls on FEMA to bail us out...isn't it ironic? don't ya think...we're to a large degree creating the flooding problems by dumping our road sediment and stormwater runoff into our wetlands and streams, and when we have major flooding like we did last April 16th, 2007...we desparately call on the Federal government for funding. Also, people realize that we have no drainage infrastructure here in Philipstown and that we're illegally dumping our stormwater runoff into our invaluable water ways...but most are not about to say anything, because they think....'THAT MEANS HIGHER TAXES!"...Our answer that is this....how much do you think we as a community are paying to have to have the Philipstown Highway Dept. Trucks continue to bring tons of gravel/dirt to repave our roads every time it rains?? Well it's a lot, and paving the roads isn't the answer either...They wash away too during heavy raing and gravel is constantly being put on the sides of the paved roads as well, that's washing directly into our Hudson River Tributaries and Wetlands....Under our newly enacted State mandated stormwater (MS4'S) laws, Philipstown is now breaking the law...and the NYSDEC and the EPA are being forced by philipstownwatchdogs and other activist groups to do somethinging abou it.
We're philipstownwatchdogs, and we're doggedly persistent.
There's much more in the pipeline, so keep checking back...subscribe to philipstownwatchdogs if you'd like...that way, you'll be able to easily find the lates video the next time you're doing the youtube thing.
