No, I don't think it does look fun. It is of course an advert, and to my mind a very good one, but it illustrates some aspects of the work of the crew quite graphically.
I have visited Bembridge lifeboat station quite a few times as it is a short walk from my house. I do think about volunteering but to be honest I am not sure that I am up to the job!

to pb99 give it ago, and find out,.Its best to know now instead always wondering weather u could of done it or not. Try it once u've got the taste you'll never want to give it up. i've been crew for nearly 5 years, and i'll still love every minute of it. Ok u put ur life on the line, but all the equiment the rnli use's is nothing but the best, i have 110 % confidence in rnli equiment...... give it a go

I am very tempted. It was the Old Gafers thingy at Yarmouth this weekend & the Yarmouth lifeboat was open for the public to get on & have a look round; very imprssive. One crew member told me it cost £3.5 million; I am wondering if he was having me on!
They then did a display in the harbour with the helicopter, all very interesting.

Well spotted! Ummm, no I haven't yet. I am not sure I can make the necessary commitment in terms of time. My work has taken over my life. I dont want to put myself forward & then never really be available etc. I regret it though. Perhaps in the future I will be able to arrange my work better. :(

I joined my local lifeboat about a year ago and i love it, its an ILB D-class thou not a ALB, i take my hat off to thou's guys, just go to the station on the next crew meeting and say your interested and you will get suited up there and then, they will take you out as a potential crew member to see if you like it,
