Recordings taken on 11th Oct. 2011, throughout the day, of dogs barking at Pets Haven Kennels. Commonly dogs are left to bark all day like this; and Tasman District Council staff and Councillors maintain that it is reasonable and complies with the Resource Management Act 1991.
Over the Christmas holiday period this year, 2011, barking such as this occurred daily. Complaints to the Tasman District Council were dismissed by the local Councillor as "obsessive".
However, TDC did issue an Abatement notice in 2005 without result. Since then they have steadfastly refused to discuss the issue with the complainants nor even to visit their property.

  • Unfortunately dogs in kennels do bark. Have you been to see the owners. It sounds as though you are doing your very best to antagonise them. Honestly if I had a neighbour like you posting all and sundry I would make sure they barked incessantly just to add insult to injury. There are ways and means to stop barking dogs. A well placed squirt from the hose shuts most dogs up. If not barking collars can be used. Owners may have to stump up for the hire of one if their dog is such a damned nuisance

  • @janeabigail57 I agree with you regarding ways to stop dogs barking persistently. I approached them and suggested methods you outline. However, they refuse to use any of these methods due to "animal welfare" concerns.

  • @janeabigail57 I am actively involved with dogs and find a squirt from a hose works very well to train recalcitrant animals. The owners and the TDC refuse to address the problem at all, leaving me with no option other than to make it public; in fact, they have stated many times in correspondence that there is no or very little barking. The previous 2 owners were able to manage the animals very professionally, with a minimum of barking.

  • @janeabigail57 ......the owners are limited in terms of the “disciplinary” measures that are acceptable to manage barking, as they have to be sensitive to the animal welfare aspects and customer expectations in this area. Manager. Consents. Tasman District Council.

  • get over it i live on a farm we here our farm dogs bark all night its wat the do.they here one dog then call back barking is away of comminicating between each dog. my main pig dog uses his bark to tell my holders were he is so they can get there faster.dogs will always bark its like tell birds to b quiet it aint going to happen

  • @crazyhigh2244 So you let your farm dogs bark mindlessly for hours on end? And they're only "comminicating"? I'd get their "comminicator" taken out, or give them some of that mind altering stuff you're so proud of filming.
