This attempt is on a smooth, flat, surface and is how Launch Control is supposed to work. If you launch at about 3100rpms (like the manual suggests) there is suprisingly very little wheel spin. The how too's of Launch Control:
1.)Manually disable ESP program (by pressing button on consol until icon appears on dash).
2.)Using left foot depress brake pedal and shift into SPORT mode (hint: you may also use Tiptronic Mode).
3.)While keeping brake pedal depressed with left foot, depress accelerator until 3200 rpms is reached.
4.)Release brake... and LAUNCH.
according to my 2008 GTIMkV drivers manual.

  • Has your DSG been giving you any problems?

  • @stanliterman24 Never BUT I heard of problems with other GTI owners... that is why VW increased the warranty up to 100,000 miles now and will replace the faulty prone Mechatronic unit for free too

  • hahaha what an idiot you are...

  • @Kintac this is a very old VID just after the break-in period... and to be honest it was a little frightening. I can do it much better now and I am STAGE 2 not stock...

  • my first try launch control worked perfect. but after that i'm not sure if i have it working properly. ill turn the esc off and put it into sport mode. then i push in the brake and rev the gas. but it seems as though the power is still going to the wheels and mhy brakes are just slowing the car from accelerating. it makes squeeky noizes instead of just reving as if your in neutral? am i doing it correctly? please help>>>

  • While in PARK 1.)Push ESP button on dash to disable it "icon" appears 2.)Depress BRAKE with left foot, HOLD DOWN and put it into SPORT MODE (S) 3.)WHILE STILL HOLDING BRAKE PEDAL down, Depress accelerator "at the same time" and watch the needle climb to about 3100rpms! Release BRAKE pedal when 3100 rpms is attained and your GTI should pounce forward like a leopard w/minimal squealing of the front tires as you rapidly pull away from everybody! USE WITH CAUTION: Open Area/No Crossing Traffic! VDUB

  • what do you mean launch mode? you were in sport mode, and it does not take that long to reach 3k revs

  • My manual states 3100 rpms... I can launch much better now also with APR stage1 software!

  • popular word from what i hear (since i still got a few months till i get my fast) is that the best RPM to launch (depending on tires and surface) is 2800 for best launch with the least tire spin. but good vids, keep having fun :)

  • This was actually only my 3rd attempt at using LC. Did you also know that the needle climbs very slowly when in Launch mode? You have to push it harder for it to rev. just a little?! When transmission is in normal operation the needle jumps as fast as you push it and is really responsive, not so in LC mode... it's almost like a count down. I am getting better at it though.
