Straining during bathroom use can increase pressure in the anus, causing the veins in the tissue to swell and stretch. This swelling can result in hemorrhoids.
There are several ways to reduce hemorrhoid pain. First, try not to sit for long periods of time when you are having a flare up. When seated, always use a pillow and avoid lifting heavy objects. During a flare up, apply a cool pack several times a day for ten minutes at a time. Afterward, place a warm compress on the area for another ten to twenty minutes. You can take an over -the -counter pain medication to help reduce the pain and swelling.
