Jan Peerce sings "O Lola ch'ai di latti la cammisa" (Siciliana) from Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana." I believe this to be from a Radio City Music Hall broadcast of December 15, 1935 where Erno Rapee likely conducted. This role later became one of Peerce's favorites.

  • Somehow this recording sounds more like he did later compared to most 30's Peerce recordings. This one must be pretty rare. I never heard it. He sings like an experienced tenor here, his Met debut was still six years away.

  • @SHICOFF1 If they did a "Great Moments in Music" for "Cav" then it could be from that but I don't know if they did or not. Only info I could find online is that he recorded this in '35 for a Radio City broadcast.

  • This is actually quite a spectacular bit of singing. SO many tenors die on this serenade, which has a merciless tessiture. He sails right through it. He technique was simply magisterial, and his musicianship exemplary. What a great tenor he was!
