Schubert - String Quintet in C Major (part 2 )

Part 2 of the first movement.

This is another great concert I recorded off a foreign satellite channel

several years ago.

I appologize for the way I've had to split this. The first 2 movements are
over 10 mins long so I had to cut it somehow. I really wanted to post it
though cos I think it's a great performance. Hope you like it!

This quintet is one of the most astonishing pieces of music ever written, especially 1st and 2nd movement. Stays with you the rest of your life once you´ve taken it in.

As great as Schubert's later string quartets are, this quintet is, I think, really the summit of his output, and ranks among the very best pieces of chamber music ever written. Magnificent!

I'm not going to be able to get that theme out of my head all day (not that I want it out of my head!). Close parallel lines: so simple yet so effective! When the viola and cello I take it on, there really are hairs that go up on my arms. Magic stuff.

3 Sat is a German TV channel...just GLORIOUS, what an amazing rendition. How very young the 1st and 2nd violonists look! Too bad their names aren´t mentioned here. :-((
