THE HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES : PART 2 - THE TWO GENERATIONS.

this is Part 2 of a mini series I hope to intend to keep creating.

To understand how far we have come...you have to go back into the past...when times were simpler...

...Today I'm going to go through the entire remainder of the first video game console generation and describe the entire second generation until its abrupt end...

this video is way over 15 minutes, so please just get comfortable and relax!

due to the time length on this video and the time spent on it...the continuation of this series will be slightly delayed...

Next Time..

The market will need to recover fast, or the "video game" will completely disappear forever....what will be its saving grace??

  • You should have toned down the music. It's too loud.

  • The original Odyssey doesn't really seem like a video game system to me. The only thing it could do was move two dots around the screen, and wasn't able to use any kind of programming logic. It was more like a board game that was played on a television using an overlay instead of on a table.

  • Too bad Astrocade wasn't marketed more. I've seen vids of Astrocade games - it was an amazing system in it's time. The graphics and sound were light years ahead of the Atari and not much worse than the later NES. Atari had a lot of games that played well, but the system lagged technologically. Later in it's life programmers were able to wring quite a bit of power out of it, though. Solaris is a great example of what the Atari could do in the hands of skilled developers.
