This is the first video in 1920x1080 HD format (as opposed to 1280x720 HD) which YT is now introducing - so I hopeit will turn out ok.
The next 2 linked videos feature songs from the operetta "Frauen im Metropol" ("Women at the Metropol")which premiered at the Berlin Metropol Theatre on 27.09.1940. The first video features the tango "Ich träume von Liebe" (I'm dreaming of love) and the second the foxtrot "Komm doch in meine Arme"(Come into my arms) performed by Horst Winter. The "operetta" "Frauen im Metropol" was composed by Ludwig Schmidseder with lyrics by Günther Schwenn and featured not only the above mentioned songs but also "Heute abend bin ich frei"and "Ich suche einen Mann" , "Wir tanzen durch's Leben" and several others. "Frauen im Metropol" starred Elfie Mayergofer, Rudi Godden, Sylvia de Bettini and Kurt Seifert and followed the Schmidseder'/Schwenn operettas "Melodie der Nacht" ('38) and "Die oder keine" ('39)....
Ludwig Schmidseder (1904-71) was a very succesful composer for both the stage and screen. Later in life he became a household name as .... tv cook! One of his early successes was "Gitarren spielt auf" (Strike up guitars) which became an enormous hit in France as "Guitare d'amour". One of his most enduring compositions is "Tango Marina" from "Melodie der Nacht".
It should be noted that theses "operettas" with their modern music featuring foxtrots, tangos and slowfoxes had very little in common with the classic operetta as it was performed between 1933 and 1944. By today's standards they would be called musicals.

DANKE!
