I love it. you've done a lot of work. I can appreciate that and I dont care what they are.. rat rods, vintage or restored. I just love old iron!

are you going to keep those mechanical brakes?

@1963impala2dr yep, might as well. on the spec board i make for it to say what it is, i will be writing in ''brakes = factory push and pray" haha

i am actually upgrading to an open driveshaft too, might as well. im having a new driveshaft made at the machineshop out of solid round stock with the 10spline on each end. i have couplers to make it go from a 6spline ujoint and a sleeve for the pinion shaft so it will almost ''free float"lol

@enginerestorations very interesting concept for a drive shaft. cant wait to see it.. just be glad you dont live where I do.. those mechanical brakes would never do! haha.. to get to my place, you climb from 800 ft elevation to 2200 in 5 miles.

@1963impala2dr the only place i wont brave with this thing is the maine/nh pike, and route 4 and 202. i dont think a 45mph truck would fare to well on a 55mph road lol

with the truck brakes, if you adjst them properly thay are just as good as a vacuum assit hydraulic. the drums on a truck are 4in wide in the front and 7in wide in the back. about 14in diameter, they are serious pieces....just dont try stopping an overloaded truck, aim for a soft rock or tree lol
