@InfectedDaemon First. I was adopted. So my very life was. Second, the fruits of this world give without asking for anything in return.

The point is that self-awareness, as it has infected the cosmos, makes part of nature open to the sense that life itself is a gift. life for humans has a gift-character. When you relate to yourself is that just as equally the universe relating to itself? How can we be both independent and yet dependent? You are not the universe but you're not not it.

@Professoranton The main thing I get from Watts is not to be under the illusion that there is a separate doer from that which is done, a separate thinker from thought, a separate controller from the controlled... a free person would be one who can change things like you're saying but would realize the changer and the changed are each part of one process. He wouldn't get caught up in only being one end of the total stick. I like your stuff I'll be checking out more. Peace.

With all due respect, and with no intended belittling, I really do feel like you're projecting your personal feelings of guilt into your overall ideas. I feel Watts very clearly paints a guilt-free picture, and while I believe that you probably have a clear understanding of Watts' ideas, your guilt prevents you from...well, dropping the guilt. This is just my initial, gut reaction. A semantic exercise that has helped me has been removing the words "Deserve" and "Should" from my vocabulary. Peace

I find it's the ones who spend the most time in contemplation are the ones who don't get it. When you spend so much time integrating it into your ego, it becomes valueless.

@Professoranton we do not need to do anything more than what any other animal is doing, my point is that at the moment that we feel special we are immediately separating ourselves from the universe. we are not given a gift of any sort we are just floating along a current.
