Song: Barstool Blues - By Neil Young-
Album info: Zuma is the seventh studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, his second with Crazy Horse, released in 1975. Some believe the album was named after Zuma Beach in Malibu; however, it seems more logical that the title comes from Montezuma, as he is featured prominently in the song Cortez The Killer.
Zuma was the first album released after the famed Ditch Trilogy, comprising the albums Time Fades Away, Tonight's the Night, and On the Beach. It has an overall more upbeat atmosphere, with a combination of country-tinged rock acoustics and lumbering hard-rock pieces similar in style to songs on Young's second album, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. As on the latter album, Young is backed up by Crazy Horse with the late Danny Whitten being replaced by Frank Sampedro.

Barstool Blues

If I could hold on
To just one thought
For long enough to know
Why my mind is moving so fast
And the conversation is slow.

Burn off all the fog
And let the sun
Through to the snow
Let me see your face again
Before I have to go.

I have seen you in the movies
And in those magazines at night
I saw you on the barstool when
You held that glass so tight.

And I saw you in my nightmares
But I'll see you in my dreams
And I might live a thousand years
Before I know what that means.

Once there was a friend of mine
Who died a thousand deaths
His life was filled with parasites
And countless idle threats.

He trusted in a woman
And on her he made his bets
Once there was a friend of mine
Who died a thousand deaths.

  • A very rudimentary version.I like it.Well done!I also believe Zuma stood for Montezuma.

  • @neilmostert

Very rudimentary? big time Rudimentary but thank you so much for your comment and there was a small controversy on Zuma the album name, some believe it was for the Zuma the beach, but finally made more sense it was named after Montezuma (after hearing Cortez the Killer) but take your pick the controversy continues, thank you.
