Primer on Infomation Security

This is a short segment from my End User Security Training class. I decided to post this because there are "industry experts" that still can't figure out why Russians are able to sell 0day exploits for $50,000. They can't figure it out...
The simple fact is that the malware industry is making more money than the anti-malware industry. Period.
So here's a segment that I teach everyone, from complete newbies to IT veterans all to help you out.

This is a very informative video concerning internet security & the microsoft corporation, but what was the purpose of the video? We all know this. What I`d like to know is who has the right answer to the the problem, about how to keep your computer secure? I`ve heard use opera browser, firefox is the best, you also need spam filter for you email, and don`t forget the rootkit program, and the adware program, history cleaner...ect. My answer? Either turn off your computer, or become a hacker.

You're thinking of security in zero-sum terms. There is no "Answer" to Security, it is a constant battle. Just as your personal health is a relative measure of your sickness based on the function of your immune system, the security of your computer is a relative measure of the security threats that exist and your exposure to those risks. You can work to build your immune system, or you can choose to not go outside. Some choose both.

Personally, I like going outside.. :)

Yes, they are now the biggest outsourcers... of malicious software. They have no functioning (civil) legal system in place to enforce any contract they sign. The exception being the former Soviet Balkan states and their neighbors; which is where we're getting software from Kaspersky (Romania), AVG by Grisoft, and Avast AV from Alwil, base themselves out of the Czech Republic where they have registered in the Commercial Register administrated by the Municipal court in Prague.

Worms and Trojans are not the same thing, worms

don't have back doors, they are self-replicating.
