@TheMyndzye You're very welcome! It sounds like your father had very good taste and passed it on to you. This is a great to song to remember someone by.

Beautiful! Seemingly a very obscure tune. I wonder how they came to know about it. Herbie did the only solo, so maybe it was his idea. Maybe this was from a movie. Anyway, glad they did it. Thanx for posting!

@jazznik2 You're welcome! Yes, I believe this song is originally from a film. I tried to look it up for you, but I couldn't find which film it's from. This was Herbie Hancock's first session, according to the liner notes, so I doubt it was his idea. It was probably the idea of Byrd or Adams, since they were the bandleaders. There are some vocal versions of the song performed by Johnny Mathis and other singers here on YT. You should watch those too!

@diggsduke I've just watched the Dorothy Dandridge rendition, it's always nice to hear the vocal version. I like Donald Byrd's interpretation very much. May be just me but those opening chords have a resemblance to the opening of Stravinsky's Petrushka.

@ImaniHekima I had never heard the Dorothy Dandridge version, so that was a treat! I am infatuated with this whole album. It's one of my all-time favorites and is so underrated. I do love a lot of Stravinsky, but I'm not familiar enough with Petrushka to have an opinion on any similarities. Enjoy Mr. Byrd and Mr. Adams.
