@queeranabela I hope ucla and other universities make this a habit. Teach the world!

@VerboseVindication Even if you don't agree with these philosophies, which many people don't, it's very hard to understand what motivated people in history to create the society you're living in if you don't understand what they believed. To refuse to teach such things isn't burning the books of ideas you don't like, but burning the books of history.

@ginsushark It's always an open argument, but the opinion that this was the first age where a dominant state (rather than a dominant king) which was accountable to no-one, dated from these times... this is a very mainstream conception of the history of totalitarianism, not just hers. Statist totalitarianism comes from Rousseau forward, not just in theory but in practice. It doesn't mean their other ideas were completely wrong, but first efforts at modern democracy were often terrifying,

She is right becouse she wears a great dress!

I find it really creepy that she keeps trying to say enlightenment motivated totalitarianism. It reduces her class to jibberish propaganda. Really sad. I was enjoying some of her earlier lectures and now I have to second guess everything.
Totalitarian is feudalism, with a dab of perverted enlightenment rhetoric. Like inverted totalitarianism.

Oh...and the word you were trying to use is spelled "pompous."

Hey, Beenie-Weenie: It is babble if your vocabulary sucks and you have not watched the ten preceding lectures. An ellipsis mark, incidentally, only consists of three periods...and it is not spaced away from the text it follows.

I bet she tastes good?

Can she be any more pompus?
I can't believe people think she is brilliant, this is just babble. Luckily she's got nice ....
I'm a philosophy high school teacher in Portugal and I wanted to thank to Professor Raia all these great lectures. I hope some of my students and friends can appreciate them.
