This a Natalie Wood video based on her 1958 film "Marjorie Morningstar", where Natalie played a young Jewish aspiring actress who falls in love with an older man while working at summer camp, a fellow camp's theatre director, aspiring Broadway playwright and producer Noel Airman (Gene Kelly). But Marjorie's family objects to him and their summer romance is ill-fated and volatile, and when Marjorie realizes that Noel isnt really going anywhere in life and he is better off without her, doing what he loves instead of conforming to a profession her parents deem as "suitable", it dawns on her that Noel's former assistant and now successful playwright Wally Wronkin (Martin Milner) has loved her all along. While it's not one of Natalie's best-remembered films, it is a very bittersweet story and Natalie's performance is outstanding. Music by The Carpenters. Enjoy!

  • I love that line: "so here I am with pockets full of good intentions, but none of them will comfort me...." That is such a pretty, pretty song. That sounds like Karen Carpenter singing. A lovely, lovely song. Thank you for the post.

  • @Culieoriginal Gene Kelly was perfectly cast: an older guy putzing with his musical in Marjorie Morningstar.

Can someone please post the title music? It had a lovely song as well over a pan shot of Manhattan across the Hudson River.

  • @ghostqueen1951 She finds out the hard way that Neil Airman is a dud/

  • How come they dont have Gene Kelly singing A Very Precious Love as they did in the Marjorie Morningstar movie?

  • Natalie was so beautiful! I miss her. Gene Kelly is a joy to watch as well!!

  • @edwardjames50 Do not know the movie... could you please explain why was Gene Kelly so miscast? Thanks

  • The Carpenters song is a perfect accompaniment to this great 1958 movie "Marjorie Morningstar" starring Natalie Wood, my most favorited Hollywood star. Actually, the theme from this movie is "A Very Precious Love". The versions of Doris Day and the Ames Brothers are the best. Thanks for posting.

  • Lovely video. I've read the Wouk novel, and Natalie was an ideal choice for Marjorie. Unfortunately, Gene Kelly was badly miscast and extraordinarily inappropriate as Noel Airman, and the movie was a botched job. Another standout, besides Natalie, is the fabulous Claire Trevor as Mrs. Morgenstern.

  • Well done putting this vid together. The movie by the way is very good. Seeing Gene Kelly dance is wonderful.
