The reason Mercein put his hands up was'nt to signal touchdown , as it appears. He himself said, he did it to show the officials that he wasn't pushing, or aiding, Starr into the enzone.
I know it's illegal (even today ), but I've never seen it flagged.

I don't really remember as I don't watch football all that much, but I do trust in what your saying.
As I understand it that rule is still in effect, but you see people pushing and pulling their teamates with the ball, into the endzone or for extra yardage. Flagarantly done, but never do i see a flag thrown.

He corrected himself by saying, "world champions, NFL champions for the third straight year." That was edited out of this recording.

He jumped the gun by stating the Packers beat the Cowboys when there were 13 seconds or so left.

That's not Ray Scott. It's the Packers' radio announcer (I think his name was Tom Moore). Scott was doing the game for CBS-TV. He most likely forgot for a moment that there was another game to play after the NFL Championship. Don't forget; the Super Bowl was in its infancy in 1967 and many people still considered it an afterthought or an anticlimax. People didn't begin to take the Super Bowl or the AFL seriously until SB3. The NFL Championship Game was considered "the big one" back then.
