Rashomon is probably one of the greatest movies ever made, easily Kurosawa's best flm
-
@ golafs... He mentioned Akira Kurosawa's - Rashomon
-
what other director did he mention? didn´t catch the name..
-
it's so cool to see how much Herzog respects Kurosawa- I've heard him bring up Kurosawa before- two of the masters
-
Truth, indeed. He is an inspiration.

The important part of this idea of ecstatic truth is that truth is not the same thing as facts. Herzog has actually said that standard cinema verite documentaries offer superficial truths, the truths of accountants. You can look up Herzog's Minnesota Declaration. One of his best lines:
"There are deeper strata of truth in cinema, and there is such a thing as poetic, ecstatic truth. It is mysterious and elusive, and can be reached only through fabrication and imagination and stylization."

divine words good sir...

It's such a loose, ambiguous term then. Allows for a lot of ...well, liberties on historical factuality.

I would, if I had it. But as far as I know, he is the only one who owns a copy of it.
