From the 9 1/2 hour documentary on the history of hot rodding. The Dreams of Legends presents 'The Way It REALLY Was' part 3: DRAG RACING.
Billy Frontuto grew up in East L.A., becoming the first man to ever spend 30 days in jail for street racing in 1955. For the next 3 decades, Billy was as hard of a racer as there was around, being one of the brave men to first pioneer the wildly exciting Fuel Altered Roadster class, until becoming paralyzed in 1972 in a freak accident at the Phoenix Firebird Raceway. To this day, he lives and works out of the same wheelchair that he left the hospital with, and has never missed a beat in racing. One of my favorite people in the world; Billy Frontuto is one of my best friends, my biggest hero, and the baddest mutha fucka I've ever know.
