Most casual Supremes fans aren't aware of this pop gem from early in their career..."Buttered Popcorn". Featured on the album "Meet The Supremes", it was released as a single, but not promoted avidly. Apparently Berry Gordy, Jr. felt that this sound didn't reflect how he wanted the public to identify with The Supremes. Florence Ballard is singing lead on this wild number, which has become one of my favorites.

I have used some live footage of my hot-air popper, some old drive-in popcorn promos, a few other drive-in foods, and some photos of the Supremes to illustrate the track. Special thanks to Darrell Wright for placing the public domain drive-in clips on the internet! Extra special thanks to mp for educating me on Motown in-depth.

I apologize if you're hungry for popcorn after watching this...ENJOY!

  • @MissPeaches901 True so true!

  • Betty Martin ( the 4th Primette-Supreme on this too ).

  • @MissAblue676792

Well, check out Miss Wilson's smile on the vid of The Supremes doing Stop In The Name Of Love on The Hollywood Palace and tell me any red-blooded American male wouldn't want to bang her.

  • @brianallancobb You are something else!

  • I LOVE Flo's voice; great range, strong, soulful, just as beautiful. I understand why Berry chose Diana to sing lead, but I also despise the constant need & desire for black artists to "cross over" (like Leon said in The Five Heartbeats "How come they never try to cross over to us?!") I'm all for expanding horizons but to push such a strong, beautiful voice into the background is. Ugh. Too heartbreaking & annoying to even think about.

  • @flavarz

Miss Ballard was the prettiest, although Miss Wilson was the one I most wanted to bang.

  • Actually, Mary had the most prominent voice. Florence would normally sing soprano and Mary would use her contralto for the alto parts. (Listen to "Stop!.." what you hear is Mary's contralto and Flo on the high parts)

  • flo's pretty good but i like diana's voice better. it's so unique and angelic

  • Your an IDIOT & Your Parents are Ashamed cobrieni, You have No Clue what your talking about

  • what a wonderul voice flo has!!what the world lost by the ruthless miss diana ross she should be very ashamed!!!!!
