Our Forest Ecology class decided to go on a night hike. One of the other chaperones informed our teacher and leader, Mr. Jones, that there would be a road leading to the top of the mountain. Unfortunately, we could not find the road and we ended up getting lost. After a few hours, we found a clearing where we could rest and build fires. It was really cold. In the morning, we traveled more and spotted cement roads and homes. We knocked on a couple of houses, but no one was home. Four students broke away from the group to knock on a house. They got a lucky break. A couple answered the door and called the sheriff of Calaveras County. The 18 students plus their teacher/leader were saved.
