At A Glance

This paved western half of the Princeton -- Summerland Rd traces an arm of the defunct Kettle Valley Railway, reputedly one of the most expensive railway lines ever laid. Frankly, they'd have been better off investing some of that cash in Harley-Davidson stock. If they had, the railway might still be running and there would have been plenty left over to pave all the way to Summerland. After ambling through a shallow valley, this pylon-free DH climbs across a high, open plateau and descends to spend most of its time in a second valley before turning to gravel. Although the scenery here is a good mix of open ranchland plateau and treed valley bottom, you won't be inspired to stop and pull the Pentax from your saddlebag. When the gravel finally takes over, you have three options: turn around, stay the night at one of three campsites on three lakes; or maxburns it another 41.0 km (25.9 mi) to tarmac, 8.0 km (5.0 mi) west of Summerland.
