Jackie Edwards Medley - Original No.1 Hit Recordings (1959 - 1962)

Uploaded by special request for Gimmelikkle.... A medley of original No.1 hit recordings by Wilfred Jackie Edwards - the sentimental balladeer often dubbed as the original 'Cool Ruler' and Jamaica's very own Nat King Cole.

Starting with his very first record "Your Eyes Are Dreaming" which was released in 1959, and got to No.1 in Jamaica. Jackie Edwards was discovered by Chris Blackwell at the age of 20, and when he established Island Records in 59, he released his first 3 records - one by Laurel Aitken, another by Owen Gray, and "Your Eyes Are Dreaming" by Jackie Edwards; scoring No.1 hits with all three.

Second track is "Whenever There's Moonlight" which was released in 1960, and also reached No.1 in Jamaica. Third is "Heaven Just Knows" another no.1 hit released in 1961. Finally, "One More Week" released in 1962 - I can't say for certain whether it reached No.1 but it was a hit both here in the UK and Jamaica.

All tracks have been taken from Edwards' first album with Island Records "The Most of Wilfred 'Jackie' Edwards' released in 1963.

Jackie Edwards recorded music in all of Jamaica's evolving musical styles, including ska, rocksteady, roots and lovers-rock. Born in 1938 passing in 1992 - he truly was one of the founding fathers of Jamaican music.

Last but not least, must express great respect for Chris Blackwell - who has dedicated his life & work to bringing the wonderful sounds of Jamaica to a world-wide audience. Thank you Mr Blackwell...
