Translation:
In the driven snow a diamond shines clear
never did a tear nor any pearl shine so brightly
With secret longing she shines toward the skies
towards the sun rising in majesty
At its shining feet she sits adoringly
and kisses them in love
and melts away in tears
Oh happy lot thus to love the best thing that life can give
to shine in its radiance and die
at the height of beauty.

I wish you non-Swedes could understand this BEAUTIFUL poem by the Finnish poet Josef Julius Wecksell. I´m sitting here crying! J.J. belonged to the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland - just like Sibelius (and my mother.) He lived in the 19th century and wrote WONDERFUL stuff before ending up in a lunatic asylum! (I think he was only 25). Sibelius has set music to several of his poems. Another one is "Was it a dream?"

I've added the translation that was provided by EMI in the CD booklet...I agree that it's absolutely amazing.
