This one reached from left to right over the whole sky and moved from one horizon to the opposite in less than ten minutes. Never seen something like this before. If anyone can explain this, I'd like to have a PM.
Rotor clouds are usually caused by downrange mountain waves (mountain waves can easily extend a 100 miles), so more than likely the wind was strong that day and the moisture content was right so you where able to see them as water condensated while being lifted by the circulating air.
