From the Trinidad Guardian, April 26th, 2009:Triple Carifta Gold medallist Jehue Gordon ran a sterling 46.9 seconds anchor-leg to lead his school Queen’s Royal College to a bronze medal at the 115th running of the Penn Relays which took place at the University of Pennsylvania's Ben Franklin Field in Philadelphia, USA yesterday. Gordon, who broke the record in the 400m hurdles at the recently concluded Carifta Games in St Lucia earlier this month, teamed up with Deon Lendore, Jonathan Holder and Kyle Griffith to grab third place in a time of three minutes: 16.81 seconds in the High School Boys' 4x400 metre relay.Finishing ahead of QRC was Jamaica’s St Jago High School who took first place in a time of 3:14.19 while Junipero Serra High School of California was second in 3:16.43. QRC shot putter Robert Collingwood was also among the medals after picking up a bronze in the High School Boys' Shot Put Championship. Collingwood threw 18.17m on Friday evening but was forced into third by Nicholas Vena and Wes Lavong. Vena of Morristown High School in New Jersey was first with his 22.01m effort while Lavong narrowly gained second place with his 18.89m throw.Ten-time Carifta gold medallist Gavyn Nero had an unusually poor showing in the High School Boys' Mile Run Championship. The sixth form student of Fatima College returned a time of 4:24.36 to place 12th in the event which was won by Jeremy Rae (4:08.13) of Lakeshore High School with Drew Shield (4:12.34) of Fishers High School and Bobby Peavy (4:13.02) of Kellam High School finishing second and third respectively. While St. Joseph Convent of Port of Spain returned a time of 48.99 to place 16th overall in the High School Girls' 4x100m relay Large Schools category. With St. Anthony College running a time of 52.01 to finish 262nd overall in the High School Boys' 4x100 Large School category. QRC also fielded a team in the event but were disqualified for a lane violation.[Results of QRC's participation in the games can be found at QRC.edu]From the Sunday Express of April 26th, 2009:Richard Thompson, Old Boy and double silver medallist at the Beijing Olympic Games, anchored the Trinidad and Tobago national 4x100-metre team to a bronze medal [in the USA vs. the World 4x100-metre event] at the annual Penn Relays in Pennsylvania, USA yesterday.The T&T quartet of Thompson, Aaron Armstrong, Old Boy Marc Burns and Emmanuel Callender sped to a 38.37-second clocking to finish behind winners USA Blue (featuring Walter Dix, Travis Padgett, Shawn Crawford and Darvis Patton), who crossed the line in 37.90, followed by the USA Red squad of Terrence Trammell, Mark Jelks, Ivory Williams, Mike Rodgers, timed in 38.36.
