Thanks to the twin Stereo satellites and many researchers contributing to this data we are able to peer into stellar creation and evolution as it occurs. This video shows the solar events from January to May 2009. Another calm year for our sun. (2007,08 and so far 2009)

The sun is on the left. You will also notice planets within our solar system orbiting around like lit balls on a polar axis. We do know Mercury, Venus and earth orbit closest to the sun, in that order, and so on. :) Jupiter and Saturn being of the large gaseous planets. Note the solar-planetary halo conjunction occurring as solar wind bombards the planets ionosphere. What is all this stuff? The halos, connections, disconnection and reconnection.

Credits to Tony Phillps at Nasa for this explanation of the Twin STEREO satellites. STEREO-B has a sister ship named STEREO-A. Both are on a mission to study the sun. While STEREO-B lags behind Earth, STEREO-A orbits one million miles ahead ("B" for behind, "A" for ahead). The gap is deliberate: it allows the two spacecraft to capture offset views of the sun. Researchers can then combine the images to produce 3D stereo movies of solar storms. http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2007/12mar_stereoeclipse.htm
