Here's the promised Boot-up/Presentation Video for Psion Series 5mx Palmtop computer I promised. In this video I'll be just messing around with some of the features that this machine and EPOC+EIKON combination has to offer...

  • cant get anny picure on mine.

  • @jacobsenx2 Does the machine turn on at all, or is it a complete brick?

  • @cdROOTatNIX well yeah i get that start beep an then it humms a bit

  • @jacobsenx2 It's either your screen or the weak cable that carriessignal from Logic-board to screen, I'll see if at some point this week I would have time to take mine apart and research for possible fixes... Cable is the most probable culprit, on 5mx it's defective by design...

  • @muharremthaqi there are few Browsers available for the OS, but they all lack CSS and JavaScipt support, so the browsing will not be too comfortable; and no, you cannot watch videos with this device, it's got only 37MHz ARM processor and 16MB of RAM, without writing special software to do it, but even then the hardware limitations will make it very hard to do.

By the way, is it just me, why I can't see the past comments?!

  • Hi, are you sure that it is necessary to boot a 5mx from the CF-Card? The 5mx has its OS on an internal ROM-Chip.... (?)

  • it's not required, I just had it to show some more features of the machine (which I had to take out to make video fit to 10 minute time-frame), I probably should have emphasized more the fact that the card is just extra and not a requirement...

Well there are cases when a card is a must; For example if your OS-ROM (C-drive) is corrupted you need to use a CF-card to boot; Other case is if you want to properly run Linux on your Psion, boot is done from C, kernel and modules loaded from CF (D)...

  • Unfortunately the screen flexi was the Achilles heel of the Psion 5MX.

As I use my Psion continuously throughout the day (yes I still do), the original Psion flexi’s lasted no longer than 1 year.

In 2008 I had psionflexi replace my flexi with their redesigned version.

Their redesigned flexi lasted almost 3 years!

I’ve just had it replaced again by psionflexi, so fingers crossed I can look forward to another 3 years of using my Psion :)

  • The Psion 5 is a great device. I only have the older, 8mb device but I don't see a need for more seeing how I have a large compact flash card.

The keyboard was and still is one of the better ones out of the hand held personal computers (also known as an "HPC".)

Plus the battery life is superb and it runs on two double A batteries which you can get everywhere!

Only gripe I have about these is that the screen is super glossy and the screen cable is prone to breakage. (Google it.)

  • @cdROOTatNIX lucky me i only paid 3 € at the local second hand store

  • can you watch vids on it or youtube vids on the webbrowser

  • where can i buy it?
