I think I read in the paper that they did open it up again through to Oregon. The ride to SLC was beautiful, but the 5am arrival in Salt Lake was not good. Even the station closed, so I had to walk about 14 blocks through an unknown city in the dark before finally finding a Starbucks. My ride wasn't arriving until 8. I thought I'd be able to wait in the station. Wrong!

Yea, I know they are different lines. One runs from San Diego To Seattle, the other from Emeryville to Chicago. Both pass through Sacramento and Davis.

This one is the Coast Starlight. The one you rode to SLC is the California Zephyr, those are two different routes.

That must've been the coast starliner! (or do they call it the starlighter?) I love the train! I just rode it from Sacramento to Salt Lake City, I arrived this morning.

Yes, that's the Coast Starlight. They must have opened the passes in Oregon; the train originated in Sacramento because they couldn't get to Oregon when I went.
Hope you had a great trip. I imagine it was just beautiful.
