The M60A2, nicknamed the "Starship" due to its space-aged technology, featured an entirely new low-profile turret with a commander's machine-gun cupola on top, giving the commander a good view and field of fire while under armor but spoiling the low profile. It also featured a 152 mm caliber main gun similar to that of the M551 Sheridan light tank, which fired regular rounds as well as the Shillelagh anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). The fitting of a CBSS (closed breech scavenger system) which used pressurized air to clear the breech after each shot solved some problems such as unburnt propellant from the main gun rounds fouling the barrel and pre-detonating subsequent rounds. The M60A2 proved a disappointment, though technical advancements would pave the way for future tanks. The Shillelagh/M60A2 system was phased out from active units by 1981, and the turrets scrapped. Most of the M60A2 tanks were rebuilt as M60A3, or the hulls converted to armored vehicle-launched bridge (AVLB) vehicles

  • Thanks Jag Soldier. Without people like you posting such vids, there is no chance to watch them at all. Most vids & documentaries focus only on anything that is largely available and easy to make. Vids like this, getting to watch is something miracle. TQ very very muchie muchie...

  • @bobridehereasy1

Hi,do you still have pictures from refoger exersices in germany?

  • @jimbog1962 I was in Schweinfurt from 76 to 79 on A Duce and we got A-3's right before I left in 79.

  • I was a gunner on the M60 A Duce and a M60 A3 during my tour in Germany with the 3rd Infantry Division from 76 to 1979. Wild tank and cramped.

  • I hit A'burg in Feb 84. Landed in Bco, 3/69. We went to the M-1 right when I got there. Also had the time of my life! Remember being in the field more than not, but that was great also. Loved that tank! Would like to find more friends from that time. Seems like yesterday! Jimbo in SC....

  • @davedzone A'burg was a great town. I really enjoyed the pedestrian shopping area and there were some great places to take pictures, including the "pink palace". One year I got brave and did the Mighty River Raft Race. It was also my last tour in the Little America part of Germany.

  • @jlt1710 DUDE! I hit Aschaffenburg in late 83, and 3/69 armor had M60A3's by then, we transitioned to Bradleys and M1's right as I was leaving in nov 85. It's sad now, Ready Kaserne is abandoned, Logo's is gone. Best time I ever had anywhere, going to fests and fasching parties pretty much non stop.

  • It was failure ! 152 was in accurate .Today it would be different , lazer guided , night vision , computers. this is old Vietnam

  • It was failure ! 152 was in accurate
