These recordings are from a late 1940s or early 1950s vinyl album called ""Madame Butterfly" Operatic Highlights" on the Plymouth label, catalog P 12-103. The only info given on the singers is "Vienna Opera Company," no singers, orchestra, or conductor is named. I don't know if it is supposed to be the Vienna State Opera or not. Does anyone have any info (probably not!)?

  • This sounds very close to Gedda, however, I don't think it's him. Great voice nonetheless

  • The singers sound German to me.

  • I think it might not be as old as you think, It sounds like Nicolai Gedda, but, many German/ nordic tenors have similar sounds, And parts don't really sound like his style.

  • No it is that old. The record is a very early and thick LP and the sound quality is terrible. The only reason it sounds alright here is because I used Dolby Noise Reduction while recording and then a program to clean it up further. Perhaps this tenor sounds a little like Gedda, but this one's Italian is far better.
