For the following weeks we didn't cross paths. I, unfortunately, was still looking for a job. I would leave early in the morning and come home around eight at night, when I knew we wouldnt run into each other in the hall.
I sat at the Chinese restaurant flipping through the Classified section of the newspaper. Hopefully something good would be available. I saw something, something I really didnt want to do, but it was my only hope at the moment. I rolled up the newspaper, put it under my arm and said goodbye to Mr. Young, the restaurant owner.
When I arrived at the address posted in the classified I sighed and walked inside. The place smelled of old men and liquor. The walls were painted a bright red and suede booths lined the walls of the room.
"Can I help you Pretty Lady?" said a voice from behind the bar.
"I saw an ad in the paper...." I replied squinting through the dimness.
"You interested?" he asked as he placed a cigar in his mouth.
"Yes," I said softly.
"Let me see what youve got," he said as he walked around me, "hmmmmmm, you may work. Be here tonight at 9 sharp, any later and your chance is over. "
"Okay, thank you," I said as I backed out through the door.
Well, it wasnt exactly the type of job I was looking for but it was the only way I could pay my bills and rent. I rushed home and got ready for what felt like a mistake.
I arrived at my "job" at 8:45pm, which gave me enough time to get my mind ready for what I was about to do. He tossed a skimpy, black outfit at me and told me to meet him at the bar. As I stepped out from the back, the place was already filling up with men, who didn't fail to overlook me. As I walked by them, I could feel them undressing me with their eyes. I felt disgusted.
"Here," said my new boss.
He handed me a tray and a note pad with a pen. I nodded and walked to a table, taking the order of a white haired man who was sitting with a younger woman who looked to be around 18. I smiled and walked to the bar, leaving the order with the bartender.
This wasn't as bad as I thought. It seemed simple enough until my boss told me to head to the back. Being this was my first day I did as I was told. In the back I was greeted by a woman that seemed to be a few years older than me.
"Hi, Suga," she said in a thick Brooklyn accent while loudly chewing a wad of gum..
"Hi, Im Selena," I said extending my arm towards her.
"Vanessa," she said while shaking my hand, "well enough meet and greet, lets get you ready."
"For what?" I asked.
"Oh sweetie," she shook her head, y"ou didnt think you were going to be serving drinks all night, did'ja?"
She quickly teased my hair then slapped some baby oil on my legs and stomach.
"Go get them, Suga," she smiled.
All of the sudden I heard the announcer say, "Hey there gentlemen, we've got a treat for you. Coming to the stage we have a new pretty lady. Make her feel welcomed." The men applauded and the music started. I felt Vanessa push me onto the stage and I just stood there and looked down at everyone. The men yelled out to me like hungry dogs in front of a piece of steak. I walked over to the pole and slowly walked around it. I bent down and slowly made my way up when I......
