Jim Bose is the executive director of the international ground source heat pump association and also the director of engineering technology at Oklahoma State University.
I live in Oklahoma. I have a BIG yard at my house. I want to install a horizontal heat exchanger in the ground. I purchased a back hoe so I can install the pipe myself.
I want to dig two trench loops, about 700 feet long each and 8 ft deep. I want to put four runs of 3/4" HDPE in each trench. I plan to pump the liquid thru the pipe in parallel.
How can I be sure this will make 5 Tons of heat/air?
I think you are confusing a heat pump with a ground source heat pump two different systems that share some principles and parts but one costs alot more money but also is much more efficient. The more efficient being the ground source heat pump which utilizes tubes filled with water that are buried at various depths as Dr. Bose touched on. The advantage is that beyond 6ft or so the ground temperature remains constant throughout the year.

My heat pump has cost us a bundle. Have not seen any money saving with this heater.
Can't heat a home in 30 degree weather or cool a house in 90 degree heat. Not worth the money... maybe a good idea in Florida.
