I want to thank Sophie for making this video "Le Voyage Ultime", "The Journey Home" as a memorial for Nelson--my grand-father. The legend of White-Eagle and White-Stallion was a story Nelson Tekoawak shared with me when I was a boy. I wrote the legend and sent the text to Sophie so she could create this film. We both agreed that I should upload "Voyage Ultime"--the French version--on my channel AlexanderHakman and she would upload "The Journey Home" on her channel LeSCINTILLA.

The Legend of White-Eagle and White-Stallion
Translated by Sophie LeScintilla

A long time ago, a dark-colored, royal eagle dropped from the sky and thrust his talons into the back of a pure white stallion. The proud mustang reared up, whipping the eagle with his mane, but the eagle would not release his prize. The stallion began to gallop across the plain with the powerful, unseen spirit of the eagle gripping his back. He kicked, reared up, leaped, shook his head, and whinnied with anger, but was unable to free himself from his cumbersome rider.

After some time, he became tired and had to rest. He felt the eagle's talons deep in his flesh, but couldn't see the bird. He swung his long white tail and blew out his breath in anger. His nostrils flared, his eyes flashed bolts of lightning and his ears stood straight like arrowheads.

"What are you doing on my back? Your place is in the sky," he said to the eagle. "If I could fly like you I would never leave the air, except maybe to rest on the mountaintops."

"You could fly if I wished it," replied the eagle.

"Me, fly? How would that be possible?"

"I am the eldest son of Wakan-Tanka, the Great Spirit. My father denies me nothing and he has the power to make you fly if you agree to serve him."

"What must I do?" asked the proud mustang.

"If you agree to help me lead the souls of warriors killed in combat and of wise men that enlightened their people to my father, he will grant you the power to fly."

"I accept," said the stallion.

The eagle took to flight. It gave a cry that reverberated throughout the heavens. A cry similar to his, from an unknown source, responded. Wings spread, the bird of prey soared for a moment and then lit on a rock.

On the flanks of the mustang, one could see traces of blood trickling from the place where the eagle had planted his talons. Long, fine and immaculate feathers sprung from these wounds and, in an instant, became majestic wings on the stallion's back. The stallion couldn't believe it. He threw his head right and left to look at the magnificent cloak of white feathers which now covered his back and sides.

"I would like to repay you for this great favor that your father has granted me," he said to the eagle. "Your feathers are too dark. You are too visible to your prey. I will cover your feathers with my mane and they will become the color of snow upon the mountaintops where you will become invisible. And, when you soar in the heavens, they will reflect the light of the sun and blind your enemies."

"As you wish," said the eagle, doubtfully.

The stallion reared up and his pure whiteness seemed to produce a halo that lifted to the heavens and enveloped the eagle, who's feathers became white as snow.

The eagle took to the air and cried to the wild horse, "Come to my kingdom!"

The stallion followed him. The two spread their wings, rose up in the sky and soon disappeared in the light of the sun, never to be seen again. Since that time, when the night is clear, one can make out their line of flight by the white trail they left between the stars.

The white-man speaks of the Milky Way, but the Indians know very well that it's the wings of White-Eagle and White-Stallion that lead the warrior spirits to meet Wakan-Tanka, the Great Spirit.
