The first time I heard this it was quite the experience - I was in my car somewhere in Massachusetts near Route 112 I think. I came upon rolling hills of vibrant green and I could see a couple of farmhouses nearby, nestled in the folds of the land, it was early spring and there were clouds and a lot of sun - the scene was idyllic beyond the effect of my feeble words. And here was this brilliant pieces I had never heard before. Quite something.

The best version of the Maestoso from the Saint Saens Organ Symphony is the Deutsche Grammophon version, Berliner Philarmoniker, James Levine conducting. DG 419-617-2. This version is a little more upbeat than the others and appropriate for the strength of the composition. Fabulous.

@RP2008PREZ I forgive for all that has happened. And since I have just began learning about classical music you were kind of right about what you said. Perhaps I could ask you for advice when I start a CD collection

@rkc2380 OK yes I will concede that was a slight overreaction

@rkc2380 bullshit! the best one was CSO in the late 70s...you obviously know nothing about the discography of this great piece

Shame there isn't a DVD of this - must have been a magnificent experience to see
Great interpretation Cochereau and Karajan were both incredible! I think the mic placement isn't the best though, it sounds like the mics were much closer to the orchestra than the organ (them being so far apart).
Still great performance!

@RP2008PREZ Ok! I could respect your passion for music but you didn't have to curse me out, what I do to deserve that?
