Addio, Fiorito Asil CAGE MATCH: Marcello Giordani vs José Cura

The first in what is to be a series of Cage Matches on Pinkerton's aria "Addio, fiorito asil" from Madama Butterfly. Stay tuned for more from all sorts of tenors!

Two of the most well-known tenors on the stage today. Cura does not sing the role, but performs the aria very often in concert. Giordani sings the role quite often. I was able to see him at the Met production of Butterfly, and he was pretty great.

This is from a recording he released in the late 90's. Cura's voice has certainly gotten a lot darker, but personally I think his high notes have improved.

Oh no no no. Always full of disappointments.

No offense to you baritonoguapo. I have nothing against Cura as a person but he is beyond over-rated what ever he is. He only sang well on two occasions, Cavalleria and Chenier. Everything else is just disgrace and cliche in my opinion. Giordani is not one of my favorite but he is a TENOR and great at what he is doing and he shouldn't be matched with Cura.

@gentleonmymind1966 Todo es opinable en cuanto a las interpretaciones. El que existan "centenares de fans" no me dice absolutamente nada, Lo mismo sucedió respecto de Mario Lanza y hoy de Bocelli. Sin embargo respecto de ambos no existe casi ninguna crítica medianamente seria que los consideres "grandes cantantes de ópera". Saludos !!!

@sparafucile2 Entonces los centenares de miles de fans de Cura están engañados o no saben nada sobre canto lírico...hay muchos críticos iluminados parece ser ..y decir que es un "desastre" no es correcto ..a mí como a muchos Nessun dorma por pavarotti no me mueve un pelo pero por Cura si...rescato que respondiste mi comentario con altura,Saludos!

Además que te quede claro que no es cuestión que sea argentino. Está el gran Marcelo Alvarez que tambien es argentino y es un extraordinario tenor.

I really think that cura has no buisness trying to sing this type of rep at best he is an operetta baritenor like eisenstein or danillo....just my opinion
