@juniorscab The definition of a diphthong is "A complex speech sound or glide that begins with one vowel and gradually changes to another vowel within the same syllable." Japanese has no diphthongs, except maybe in some minority dialects. What is discussed above is typicall called digraphs, ex. in the Wikipedia article on Kana.
