I offered Hurley Wilvert my bike to race this weekend in the historic heavyweight vintage class. For those of you who don't know who he is, well, he was a Kawasaki factory H2R roadracer in the 70's. So It was very cool to have a "hero" race my bike.

He took 2nd in his class, only loosing to a multiple AHRMA heavyweight champion on a Kawasaki 1000.

Sorry about the vid quality, the focus had a mind of it's own, and I was on full zoom, making things very shaky.

The race was combined with novice GTU (600's), so that's why modern bikes are out there too.

And probably the most comprehensive triples resource site in the world: http://kawtriple.com/mraxl

and my personal website: http://www.3cyl.com/mraxl/aylor/

  • Dennis is fast! And Hurley was in his 60's! So he did pretty darn good! And Dennis (Z1) has given some modern bikes a run for their money in our little 1.2 mile track..... ;-)

  • Maybe the H1 got too hot towards the end

of the race & that's why he came 2nd?

He was really thrashing it. LOL.

  • Well, First place was a highly moddified Z1, with a multiple AHRMA champion riding it. (plus a 20 year younger rider....lol) I think the 500 did pretty good!

  • Guy on the Z1 was obviously just sniffing his hind end before throwing the hammer down. Good video, though. Thanks for posting!

Bet the Z1 would have had a bit more trouble with my ZX10R!

  • I owned an H-1 Triple back in the early 80's and I can tell you it was without a doubt the SCARIEST bike I ever rode. It would twist and flex in the turns , it was so loud and smoky that people would roll their windows up at traffic lights. Nothing but respect and props for Hurley Wilvert taking that old widowmaker right to its limit! Very impressive!

  • It certainly did very well indeed.

  • Yo Hurley..great to see you riding the only way possible for me way over here on the right coast. From Patty.

  • vinnnnnnnnn

  • ring ring ding ding
